Sept. 08, 2016: Urwa Church celebrated the feast of the birth of Mother Mary with great pomp. The parishioners gathered with flowers near Mr Augustine D’Souza’s house of Sacred Heart Ward at 7.25a.m. Small prayer service was conducted.The procession started with altar boys & other children carrying flower baskets and adults new corn in their hands. The statue of Infant Mary was carried in the Vehicle, which was provided by Mr Gopal. Keeping in mind the environ cleanliness flowers were not thrown during the procession on the road but the flowers were showered on Infant Mary on the church ground.
Rev. Fr Vijay Victor Lobo, the director of Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education was the main celebrant with Rev. Fr Stany Pereira, the Parish Priest, Fr Johnson Sequeira and Fr Nelson Pais, Asst Parish Priests and Fr Peter Serrao, a guest Priest as the co-celebrant for the feast Mass.
The parish wore a festive look with bright and vibrant coloured flowers brought by children, taking a prominent place in the celebrations. All the parishioners gathered at the statue of Infant Mary singing “Sakkad Sangatha Melyam”. The children showered flowers and petals at the idol of Mother Mary to the melodious tune of “Moriyek Hogolsiyam”. After this Mr Gopal was honoured by giving the new corn and sugar canes for providing his vehicle for the celebration.
Then followed the holy mass. The choir sang melodious hymns. Fr. Vijay’s sermon highlighted the meaning of this feast of family love. Our Families are the temples of Faith and Humanity. We should grow our families in strong faith in God and kind attitude towards our neighbor. We eat the new rice today united with our family and let us continue this tradition to keep the love and unity of the family.
All those who contributed to the feast were thanked by the Parish Priest. After the final blessing Fr Vijay Lobo blessed the new corn and handed over to the Parish Parishad members to distribute to the devotees.
Sugarcane was distributed to all the parishioners.
