Aug 15, 2016: Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and respect at Immaculate Conception Church Premises, Urwa, Mangalore. The ceremony started at 8a.m. in the open ground with large crowd of staff, students, parents, members of School Management Committee and Parishioners.
Rev. Fr Oswald Monteiro - Director of C.O.D.P., the Chief Guest, Rev. Fr Stany Pereira – Correspondent and the Parish Priest of Immaculate Conception Church, Urwa, Rev. Frs Johnson Sequeira and Nelson Pais - Asst Parish Priests, Mr Hilary D’Souza - Vice president, Mrs Jenevive Mathias - Secretary of Parish Pastoral Parishad escorted by all the Head-Mistresses of the Institutions to the Stage.
Prayer Song was sung by the school choir group. The guests were welcomed by offering the bouquets.
To commemorate the sovereignty of our nation, the Chief Guest unfurled the tricolor flag and all in unison sang the National Anthem and expressed the joy of our freedom.
Navyashree, a student from Pompei School, shared her views on the significance of the day. Ms Rashmi Baliga, the school topper and Mr Ramakrishna Rao, the Ex-serviceman were honoured.
The Chief Guest of the function Rev. Fr Oswald Monteiro said, “The true freedom means when we make our country corruption free.” The Correspondent Rev. Fr Stany Pereira in his message mentioned - It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness. In the face of bad times or hopelessness, it is more worthwhile to do some good, however small, in response than to complain about the situation.
The students performed the cultural programme and at the end sweets were distributed. The programme was well compeered by Mrs Usha Harish.
Indeed, it was a day of joy, a day to love and respect our country and make it a better place for Indians to live and experience the freedom, peace and unity in diversity.
