The Education commission & Women’s commission of Urwa Church together organised ‘The Teen years’, a seminar on handling academic stress in teens for class 8th to 10th students of Urwa Parish. It was held on 18th September 2022 in Urwa Church Mini Hall at 8.15am – 9.30am. Mrs. Sangeeta Maria Sequeira, the counsellor of St Aloysius PU college, was the resource person. Our Parish Priest Rev Fr Benjamin Pinto, along with the vice President of the Parish Pastoral committee, Mr. Lloyd Lobo, the secretary of the Parish Pastoral committee, Mrs Lucy D’Souza & the members of the commission were present. Mr Neil D’Souza welcomed the gathering.
The session began with an activity & thereafter the resource person spoke on the factors & effects of academic stress. She interacted with the group through Power point presentation. Tips were given to deal with the academic stress. ‘Budget your time, have sound sleep, have healthy food habits, do simple exercises’ are some of the rules to keep your stress at bay. She further emphasized the importance of time management. She mentioned that the mornings are the ideal time to study. She further said that assignments or projects and learning of the subject that you feel too tough shouldn’t be left until the last minute; seek help, if necessary, consult and take guidance from your teachers, parents or counsellors. She then advised them saying ‘Don’t let yourself worry too much; It may disturb your mental health and anxiety may lead to depression’.
The session ended over a game in which all the students actively participated in the session in which the group was seen very enthusiastic and the vote of thanks by Mr Neil D’Souza.
